Notes

1. The  Fulton & Hamilton coats-of-arms are conjoined in a stained glass window in the cloister in Downside Abbey near Bath.

2.  Robert of London  (eldest illegitimate son of Malcolm) changed his name to Lundin on his marriage to the heiress of the House of Lundin.

3.  William’s crest featured a lion – hence the sobriquet.  He was notorious for the number of his mistresses and father of many offspring, including four kings –  Davidl, Alexander l, Edgar and Duncan ll  –  and Queen Matilda of England.

4.  Henry’s wife Ada/Ida de Warenne (1120-1178)   :  is also related to us on the ‘Warren’ line ( See ‘Benefaction.home.blog’   –   ‘Vikings’  under  ‘Paternal Line’.    She was the daughter of William, the second Earl of Surrey, & Elizabeth Vermandois, mother of Malcolm lV and William l, and great-granddaughter of Henry l of France.

5. King of Scotland  =  King of Alba ie. that portion of modern-day Scotland stretching from Argyll and Bute to Caithness across  much of the south.

6. Margaret Clingan (with her acclaimed love of all things Scottish)  must be chuffed to learn she is descended from St Margaret (1045-1093), the second wife of Malcolm lll     (r. 1058-1093)

So, who will join me in a class action against the current squatters of Edinburgh Castle ?  A few bob my way will assist in relieving me of concern re court costs.   Much love /  Joe
