Mary Fulton ( later Asquith) on left dressed in costume as Sr Theresa, for a play. It must have been a fine performance as it is mentioned in her mother’s obituary and in a letter sent by brother Henry from Rabaul.

Photo above. Patrick Byrne and Ellen (nee Hannan’s) children. Named on the photo by Joe. Catholic families nearly always had at least one Mary, usually the eldest. In this family there were two! Mabel was christened Mary Magdalene so there was Mary Magdalene and Mary Genevieve ( late Kennedy). Mabel didn’t marry and had a career as parish priest housekeeper. After retiring she lived with her mother and sister Callista at Chatswood. (see Joe’s notes under “Christina’s Family”). She was a recluse from that time and suffered with Huntington’s chorea- the cause of her death, and breast cancer. There was one other child, John, who died in his teens after catching a chill and then rheumatic fever on hunting trip in 1904 ( dangerous times before antibiotics).
